Hello, My name is Chase Oliver and I am running to be the next United States Senator representing the people of Georgia. I want to be a Senator that serves each and every individual, and not a political machine based in Washington DC. I want to represent you and not special interests which thrive on division, gridlock and partisan fighting. I would rather work for results. I want to see all sides come together to make it easier to start a new business by reducing the red tape and complexity and tax burdens on small businesses. I want to work on fixing our broken immigration system so we continue our nation’s legacy of being a beacon of liberty to the world. I want to fight for Justice reforms that protect all of our rights and put people on equal footing with the government in our courts. Most importantly I want to serve the people of Georgia, work to overcome partisan gridlock, and get to work on the pressing issues that affect all of us in the Peach State.
GA Senate Debate
It is long past time we address the problems with our criminal justice system. From Courts, to police, to prisons, we need reforms in every area with one goal in mind, empower people, not government. That means ending qualified immunity for federal law enforcement so those abused or harmed by law enforcement can have their day in court without worry that charges will be thrown out due to qualified immunity, a protection none of us enjoy. It means ending mandatory minimum sentencing which ties the hands of judges, and forces people who may be innocent to plead guilty for fear of a long mandatory sentence. It means ending the prosecution of victimless crimes and instead placing the focus of law enforcement on investigating and prosecuting crimes of violence, theft, fraud or coercion. I am ready to get to work on these reforms which level the playing field for the individual and their inherent rights and limit law enforcement to its role in securing liberty, not denying it unjustly.
How can we make it easier for Georgians to find a good job to provide for themselves and their families? We can start by going line by line through the tax and regulatory codes to make it easier to start a new business and remove competitive advantages giant firms have purchased through lobbying both parties in power. Small business is the engine of our economy, and if we take the time and make the effort to go through the enormous tax and regulatory codes and begin removing these impediments, we will see local businesses grow and good paying jobs will come with that. People create jobs, not Government. The best I can do as a Senator is to keep the government out of your way.
The failed war on drugs continues on and on even though we all see the policies of strict prohibition and prison aren’t working for Georgia. While I think Georgia should join the states who have legalized cannabis, I think it’s something we need nationwide and to end the burdensome regulatory hurdles placed on the cannabis business like federal banking regulations. President Biden could deschedule cannabis with the stroke of a pen, legislation isn’t required. What is required is legislators willing to hold him accountable to get the job done. I will be one such legislator and encourage others to join me. Cannabis should be no more controversial than a glass of wine. Too many people sit in jails and prisons across the nation for selling, possessing or using a plant legal for over half the adult population.
It is often the case that the worst government abuses come disguised as protection from danger and harm. If you feel in danger, it becomes easy for the government to have you trade your liberty for the illusion of security. We have warrantless wiretaps, abuses of the FISA courts, an overarching Patriot Act to name a few. Even worse, we attempt to imprison those who expose the hard truths we need to hear. As Senator, I will fight to end these programs which eat away at your constitutionally protected privacy and civil liberties and advocate for the release and pardon of those who have blown the whistle on abuse and illegal actions of our government.
My entire adult life, our nation has been at war somewhere in the world. I have friends and loved ones who have served, and come home with the visible and invisible scars of combat, and seen them mourn their brothers and sisters who didn’t come home. I meet more and more anti-war veterans every day, and they know more than anyone the cost of war. It’s time we focus our foreign policy towards Peace. We should end our policy of sending drones around the world and instead foster more goodwill around the world by defending free trade and free markets. Our nation has long had the moniker “leader of the free world”. It is time we earn that distinction by insisting that Peace is the way forward. End the wars, End the drones, End the policy of constant intervention. Its easy to drop a bomb, its much harder to broker Peace. We must take the more difficult but necessary path.
